How was Canada affected by the American Civil War?

Americans have a ton of history on it, and Canadians have some mention of the time period but there isnt anywhere drawing connections between the two. What events, economic questions, people affected Canada from the cvil war? Were we really effected at all?!!? How about our confederation, was that a result of the civil war? are there things about confederation of canada that reflect problems from the civil war?
