How do you become financially independent of your parents?

Here's the gist of it, my dad is sort of controlling, like not too extreme, but the thought of me moving away for college makes him get so upset, that he almost lets me have no choice in where I choose to start life (meaning college, getting my own place). So now the other part, I want to move slightly far...but not really, like 3-5 hours at the most, but he really wants me to just go to community college and live at home...and I Love them to death, but I just cant live there. He pays for almost all my main expenses...housing, phone, clothes, etc....what are the steps I can start taking to become independent. My goal is to move out at 19, but financially, I don't think I will have enough to pay for apartment, car, health/car ins., cell phone, clothes, food, school, entertainment, and then all the other basic living expenses...Its so overwhelming to think about how I can do it...any help?
